police are like loose change in your pocket you can never find them when you want them, but when you dont want them they are always around. i think there should be atleast two police officers in the aspatria area at all times. if there are police seen in the town in the evenings the older generation of people wont be scared to go out (ie to the shop).

Beacon Hill School

Community Spirit

Hello, I know this sounds a daft but i think Community Spirit is vital, it comes it alsorts of different forms, it can be a case of saying hello to a neighbour over the garden fence, it can mean offering to help some one or even saying hello when you pass by some one.

Ask Your Town Council

This board has been put up in the hope that it can be like an open forum for people to ask question and request things to be taken to the Town Council.

I have asked our Mayor Mr Trevor Gear if he would like to join this forum and he has stated he would be pleased to, so there will be more than just Janice Barker in here from the Town Council then and hopefully in time we can use this board like an online surgery.

Regarding the amount of road works in and around the Aspatria area- isn't it about time the local council or county county council gave the hurry up to some of the national firms. The closure at Mealsgate has gone on too long. The roadworks in Station Road and Arkleby Road are being carried out by United Utilities in conjunction with Balfour Beattie in regard to Water main replacement. This follows three road closures last year in Arkleby Road by the same firms for electrical works. Whatever ...

I wanted to start this off by firstly saying that the Vandalism i talk about is broken telephone box windows and damage done to cars. Its also fair to say we dont have much of the later, but i think BT must be sick and tired of replacing glass!!!

What about extending the CCTV cameras? let me know what everyone thinks.

Missed opportunity

It is a great pity that the old cinema project fell through - I gather it was Allerdale BC's inefficiency caused this? - I understood that a climbing wall was to have been one of the facilities and (IMHO) that would have been a Good Thing for the local kids. Even where there are loads of facilties, lots of kids just love climbing.

Richmond Hill Sats Results

Congratulations to Richmond Hill School Pupils who did excellent in the Sats exams.

Pupils from Richmond Hills School Council came to the Town Council to ask the Councillors questions tonight and they related their Sats results to the council.

Well Done! Keep up the hard work.

I would also like to say that as a School Governor as well as a Town Councillor you have made our School very proud.

Recycling

I think this is a must, and it should be encouraged but saying that it needs to be done in a straight forward way. If we recycle we should get some sort of reward, so an idea would be wher ever there is recycling bins available the community where they are should get some sort of incentive. I dont know what, but there should be a reason to persuade people to do more recyclying maybe a cash payment to a community group in that area?

What does everyone think?

I would like to ask the town council why it was not possible to put the Xmas tree on Brandraw carpark straight.

All you can see as you come up Station Hill is the Leaning Tree of Spyatree.

Please if possible could it be straightened it looks a bloomin joke as it is.

wind farm locations

wind farms are becoming more and more of an eye sore. the south side of noble croft and harriston used to have a beautiful view of skidaw, but since wind farms have been built neer there the view has been destroyed.

Schooling and Childcare provision

Well this is an easy one for me, due to the fact that i am Chair of Governors at Richmond Hill School. I attended Richmond Hill and Beacon Hill school and so did my children, and i know that both of the schools in Aspatria have had their share of knocks but i see first hand the changes that happened.

I also see that the job of a Teacher is not a straight forward job, there is more and more paperwork now than actual teaching. We now also have a Childrens Centre at Richmond Hill School and ...

What has the picture in the top left of the newsletter got to do with Aspatria,why pies,chips and a hotdog??? I mean what sort of message is it sending out,"come to Aspatria we are a bunch of larda***s that live of fast food"

Something relating to the mining heritage,farming,sealy anything really would have been better than that,the letter is a good read and proffesionally put together it is just that that lets it down.

Traffic Issues

This seems to be a good question at the moment, while out and about delivering leaflets i noticed that even though Mealsgate is closed it seems quiet at Fletchertown BUT at Gowrie you still get Huge Trucks sneaking through from Heathfield on the A596!

I know there is other issues in and around Aspatria about Traffic etc. let me know what you think, do you have any suggestions? is there any hotspots? or at certain times of the day?

Car Parking Charges.

After reading the report in the T&S i am suprised that no-one has commented on this issue.

How can Allerdale justify putting a machine on the carpark for 26 spaces,then pay someone to patrol it and empty the machine,one of those ticket machines must cost thousands.It just doesnt add up.

The other issue is, as far as i am aware the bottom of the carpark has been sold/leased to united utilities to house the holding tank that is currently being installed ,now given that the council are cribbing ...

extending cctv

I think its an excellent idea extending the cctv, but then it would be costly too, still I suppose that in the long run it would pay for itself as hopefully it would cut the vandalism down.

This has been bothering me since the bus stop was knocked down. What was the reasoning behind knocking a perfectly good bus shelter down and will the same thing be happening on the other side of the road?

I heard that it is suppost to be replaced by a plastic bus shelter, this makes me wonder, if the youth of today can vandalise a telephone box, how on earth are we going to protect the bus shelter?

What are other peoples thoughts on this?

Donating Daffodils for Loved ones

The admin received this email off Wendy today asking us to put this in the forum.

In 1999 / 2000/ 2001 I had people donating daffodil bulbs in rememberance of loved ones, which were planted where they wished on the grass verges. 3000 bulbs were donated. A book of Rememberance can be seen in the Church. We had such a good show this spring I would like to add to them this year. The Town council promised to have �50 worth planted every year but have not fulfilled their promise.

Solway Coast

that the powers that be are now trying to turn the Solway Coast into a Marine Reserve apparently 15 coastlines throughout the UK have been put forward and the Solway Coast is one of these.

This would have a dramatic impact on our tourism and on our economy especially in the fishing ports like Maryport and Silloth.

What are your views on this.

i have lived in aspatria all my life, and i have noticed there are more and more youths hanging around the bus stops drinking smoking and doing drugs. not so long ago one of my little brothers got charged with smashing all the windows in the phone box, because of that he had to pay a fine and 3 months community service, now i try to keep my brother from going fare from home incase the same happend to him or even worse he gets hospitalised because of some of the drugs they take.
