Unfortunatly I have been ill since coming back off holiday on Monday with a bad cough and flu like symptoms so I doubt I will be there as I have not been out all week. I dont think anyone would want me coughing and spluttering all over the place.

Community Spirit seems to be disappearing in all the big towns and it would appear that the smaller ones are now following suit.
It is up to us as members of these smaller towns to do as much as we can to ensure that community spirit does not die in them.

Hi Serenmyst, I quite agree with that statement far to often the community spirit is lost in alot of small communities let us hope this does not happen in Aspatria.

I moved here from a big town and lived near the city, there is next to no community spirit there at all, every one just watches there own back, neighbours rarely talk to each other and if you looked at someone to say hello you risk getting abuse.

The first thing I noticed when I moved to Aspatria was how friendly everyone was and I was impressed at how complete strangers said hello to me when they did not know me, I was in awe of how close a community this is, I love being apart of this community and will do whatever I can to help it stay this way.

Here is an email I received of Wendy Campbell for posting in the group:
There will be a meeting on Friday 22nd Feb 8 p.m. in the Grapes Hotel anyone wishing to help with the Gala are invited to attend. Please help if you can. No help....no Gala.

I keep meaning to attend the safety meeting but usually forget about the time and date, I could not have gone anyway as I have prior commitments on a Friday evening.

Thanks for posting the time and date in here though it is very useful knowing what is happening around the area that we live in.

Perhaps its time to pull the plug on "Aspatrias Voice", no one cares, so why should we, let it rest in peace, it was a great idea but like most things here in Aspatria, no gives a t***. Well done to that small band who thought a little about the "Ole Place", but lets be honest, no one else does.

Good bye and good luck.Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Sleep Sleep Sleep

You might have a point Reiver...but plenty of folks were out and joining in on Saturday at the Carnival. It seemed a bit more pleasant an atmosphere this year and the Barracuda band at the end were stunning. Please lets hope it keeps going next year as at least we get decent weather one Saturday of the year!!!!

I think before next years carnival, the kids should tell the parents how to behave. The road outside the Sun looked more like a landfill site. It must have been the adults because it was littered with beer bottles and cans. I had to swerve all over the road just to avoid hitting these and getting punctures.

Fancy putting this under community spirit, volunteer next year to be a litter picker and help the gala day out instead of bitching because you were 'inconvenienced'.
Its for one day, you shouldn't live here.

Hi Pip: Well said, I dont't like Carnivals, never have, for reasons best known to me, however I am pleased that everyone enjoyed themselves on Saturday, I hear it was a good day, like you said those that complain should try and help out to try and make it better.

Best of luck with it next year.

Hey
I'm pleased everyone enjoyed themselves. But that doesn't give people the excuse to throw bottles and cans into the road. Just how hard is it to place the rubbish in a litter bin. Like Reiver, I also don't like carnivals but that doesn't mean others can't enjoy themselves, after all it's all done for the kids of the town and the organisers do a bloody good job of it and put in a lot of hard work. I say "well done to them".
However it seems that some (not all) adults use the day as an excuse for a p**s up. Why should they look after the town, after all someone, usually a volunteer will walk behind them cleaning up their mess. Are their homes in a similar state?

It was a brilliant day although unfortunately, as more alcohol was consumed, there were one or two 'incidents' but on the whole, the day was a success and the kids enjoyed themselves. I for one will be volunteering next year.

Wherever you go in this world, there will be people that don't care less about their surroundings and the people they closely reside with. It's a sad fact of life these days and we shouldn't give up. I know if I stopped caring, my conscience would never let me live it down!

I thought that Gala Day was a wonderful day and my Congratulations go to Wendy and her band of Volunteers that organise the Gala Day each year.

Resident I agree about the mess but in every town in the country on their Gala Day or Carnival Day there is always a mess made by the people that congregate to watch the Gala Day.
Without the Congregation of people there would be no point in holding a Gala Day. At least our little Town comes out to view the Gala and supports it.

Once again Well Done to the Organisers and I cant wait until next years Gala.
