It was reported in tonights News and Star

http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/viewarticle.aspx?id=792827

That "Wardhall Ltd wants to set up a Community Land Trust (CLT) to build homes in Arkleby for young families who otherwise could not afford to live there. It also wants to use wind power and an anaerobic digester to supply the houses with energy."

Great news, but would it not have been better putting up this sort of housing in the Town.

I also think that this is good news but have reservations about why they want to build new low cost homes at Arkleby and why they want to use more wind turbines.

I believe we have more than enough wind turbines in this area already and totally do not agree with anymore of them going up.

Like reiver has already stated I think it would be far better for these homes to be built in the Town and not on some farm land on the outskirts. This in my opinion would only enable the Landowner to get richer in the process, If I have read the article correctly the land is not worth as much as agricultural land, as it would be worth if it was built on.

We already know the only people to benefit from wind turbines are the land owners whose land they are sited on.

Well, this area is very tricky; i can understand new houses been needed but this seems to me a solution to a problem the land owner has ie cheap land which he wants to make expensive building land.

What i cant understand is that the landowner does not seem to have approached any Housing Associations to partner with this? thus keeping the cost down. Am sorry to say kiddo you cannot have that type of stipulation put in place what you can say is "affordable" but whats affordable to one person aint to another! But fully understand you saying because i would have said the same.

One way off keeping so many houses in the "Affordable" bracket was that an Housing Assoication would have used a developer and made sure that under planning they would use a thing called Section106 housing, but thats maybe why the land owner didnt go down that route? who knows?

What you find is that the land will treble in value once it is classed for housing use, like Reiver says we do need housing but we need it to be kept to a "local affordable" level, and my worry is that this will be priced way outside local need!.

ON YOUR BIKE ????
I can not understand the logic of this proposed sight, surely if they can't afford a home they won't be able to afford a car, so how on earth are they going to get out of the village.....no buses.... the mind boggles at who thinks these things up.

Fudpucker the people that stand to make alot of money from the development but dont really give a damn about the local community and how it will be effected by transport issues as long as they line their wallets they are happy.

Not sure what to add, apart from when people put "Affordable Housing" into a development the idea is that people get onto the property ladder. Allerdale BC can play a huge part in this by placing strict planning guidelines down.

So, when an Housing Association builds new properties they have to meet these strict guidelines for affordable housing and rented housing and there is things like "Shared Ownership", i aint 100% on this but it means that first time buyers get onto the property ladder by only buying a percenatge of the house and paying a rental on the other.

I will ask some one i know to give me the full descriptions for each type of housing ie shared ownership etc

This type of building proposal is to make money, the other thing i would like to ask everyone is it said in the papers that thousands and thousands of leaflets were sent out inviting people to a "public meeting", i never got one did anyone else get one?? be good to find out!
